How to Calculate CGPA: Complete Guide for Students (2025)

What is CGPA?

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It's a numerical representation of your overall academic performance across all semesters or years of study. Unlike GPA (Grade Point Average), which is calculated for a single semester, CGPA represents your cumulative performance.

CGPA is calculated on a scale of 0 to 10 (or sometimes 0 to 4, depending on your institution). A CGPA of 8.0 or above is generally considered excellent, while 6.0-7.9 is good.

CGPA Formula

The standard CGPA formula is:

CGPA = (Total Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Total Credits

Where:

  • Total Grade Points = Sum of (Grade Point × Credits) for all subjects
  • Total Credits = Sum of credits for all subjects
